They've found possible evidence of life on Mars, our nearest planet. Considering the theory that space goes on forever I
think that chances of the only life being, coincidentally, on
two planets that are next to each other are surely nonexistent?
Bearing in mind, though, that Mars lifeforms could
have originated from the same place as ours.

It's certainly possible. The laws of chemistry and physics allowed life to develop here, so given the right conditions they could do so anywhere.
The right conditions is the hard part, though; so many things had to be just right for live to develop and survive. I am inclined to believe that the combination of a single star in the right location, of the right size, with the right size and composition of planets, the right distance from the sun, with the right amount of water, an d the right atmosphere, plus the freak accident that has to compose the first molecule capable of self-replication, is almost too much of a long shot to have happened at all (though it did happen once - here.)
If a planet somewhere DID beat the odds and develop life, though, it's very likely that the life became fairly advanced, perhaps even intelligent. The hardest part of evolution is going from nothing to something, once that self-replicating molecule exists and spreads, development into higher forms is almost assured. Even mass extinctions in Earth's history couldn't extinguish life entirely, and it has always rebounded.
I am prepared to reverse my position upon conclusive proof that even rudimentary life appeared anywhere besides Earth - even on Mars. Once could be a freak accident, but if it appeared twice with no connections, it might well have appeared on a billion planets throughout the universe.

They are discovering new life forms all the time in the deeper regions of the sea, and also in the depths of jungles. As more of the planet, especially the sea, becomes accessible, the numbers are bound to go up. Who would have thought there are sea creatures that rely on a high sulphur environment, let alone survive there.
As for life on other planets, who knows, but it is certainly possible. Whether we will ever make contact is another matter.

Let me just say this, there are around 500 billions (500 000 000 000) of galaxies out there of which 30000 been observed each containing about 50 billion astronomical objects in them and knowing the speed of light is 300,000 Km/sec and knowing the closest star to us is about 4-5 million light year away, now consider all these odds,a fraction of probability gives a logical mind to conclude that there is definitely a sort of life out there,of which form? Cant really comment!!!

I agree with you, there's got to be other inhabited planets out there. Space is endless, so just think you lived on Mars and asked the same question, you travelled into space to our moon and looked at our planet earth and asked that same question again. I really do think that there has got to be some other form of life out there .
Just wait until we have got the proper space craft to search deep into space. I admire the bravery of these astronauts of the shuttle and the space station, I say and mean this to all the people in other countries of the world who have conquered space, you guys have got guts, God bless you all and to the guys up in the ISS God bless you all as well .

hi there
taking into account everything that has been said so far, one person said the nearest start t0 ours is 4-5 million light years away that figure is way off, the closest star to ours is promi centura and it is only 4 to 5 light years away. so even traveling at the speed of light it would still take 4 to 5 years to get there. the nearest star system to ours that has planets similer to ours are in the andromeda group about 10 billion light years away. but I think in regard to you question on life on other planets I think there is possibly life but just life like alge or bacteria
I hope that this helps
from matt

If you do Drake's equation you can work out how much life there is in the universe. Trouble is we don't really know all the constants yet.
However, the universe is a pretty big place so yes I guess there is life out there somewhere but it's going to be very rare and we're never going to meet it.

the universe is massive, therefore the odds of having other life somewhere are fairly high-the form of any other life apart from earth is the question-it may only live for micro seconds!

of course. it is ridiculous to think there is not when you understand the numbers of other stars and planets in the universe. people who think we are the only little speck with life on it are just deluding themselves. the real question is: given the enormous distances involved how do we go about communicating with others. We haven't been around long enough to begin to know that but we hope that others have been evolved long enough and maybe they will contact us.

am very much with you on this one..even thou there is no prove of that yet..and also all the Christan's out there will say adam and eve started life there is no prove of that either...but life on this planet came from space possible we started as bacteria and we evolved to what we are now.they have also discovered that there was water on mars and there is water on one of jupiters moons(and where's there is water there is life.and i think we will find it in our lifetime as well..and just think there is billions of planets out there we have not even scratched the surface yet...yes there must be life out there
may the force be with you lol
