Do you think our National Anthem should be sung the way it was written? I do, how bout you?

It's one thing if you're off key, or can't hit a note. I don't mean that. I mean changing the tune, the tempo, putting your own spin on it. That kind of stuff.

That depends - what country are you talking about? The British national anthem is awful, and the full version has four verses. Most people only know the first one.

What a smug, offensive and xenophobic question. You mean should the Anthem be sung the way YOU think it should?
It is a jingoistic, militaristic poem set to an old BRITISH DRINKING SONG that has a range that almost nobody -- including talented professionals -- can sing unless they are half-crocked (it must have been a wonderful British drinking song)...
Probably you have heard someone of color or some more 'avant gard' musician do some styling that wasn't what you were traditionally used to hearing.
Good for them.
It's about time the Star-Spangled Banner (first published by Scott Key as Anacreon in Heaven (after the London pub where the music originated) was scrapped as our national anthem. There are so many better possibilities: My Country, 'Tis Of Thee, America the Beautiful, This Land is Your Land, etc.
So, the answer to your question is that THE NATIONAL ANTHEM WAS NEVER WRITTEN TO BE SUNG, the way you want to hear it or otherwise. So whatever singing variation makes it more palatable and tolerable should be welcomed.

The National Anthem should be sung the way it was written but knowing our Government the will change for the people that is calling the U.S. their home. Do you recall in school when the second language we had to learn was Spanish or french, know there Japanese, Hebrew and Creole:so get ready to learn how to sing the National Anthem all over again but this time it will be in a whole different language.

I am a pretty easy going guy but lets say it was not there when some jokers decided it would be a good idea to sing it in Spanish.

I do not mind if the artist uses there own style to sing it; Rock, Country, R&B etc. It is a difficult song to sing; lots of range, I do not mind if the singer stays in his own genre.

There should be flexibility within reason. It's a song that has meaning to a lot of people, and musical tastes should not get in the way of appreciating it. Sing it tastefully, with respect and gravitas as it deserves.

The Star Spangled Banner should be sang exactly how it was written.

If your talking about some other country then I really don't care how there anthem is sang.

I do. I can't stand when singers change it around or when they emphasize or draw out different parts of the song that weren't originally meant to be emphasized. It drives me crazy to hear it sung incorrectly.

Yes, it should be. Singers who try to sing it at sporting events or whatever and add their own spin on it, usually wind up making it sound awful.
