I'm looking for a game date and opponent, as well as, if anyone has one, a video or radio clip, or a newspaper story. Anything.

It did happen during the super bowl run of Da Bears. I forgot the excat game though. Try the chicago bears web site I'm sure they will have something about in there.

I saw that play happen, and it was in 85. You can buy the whole Bears 85, including the Super Bowl in Jan of 86 now. I saw it for sale for $69.95. I don't remember which game it was.
The Fridge was in the backfield, Payton was stalled at the goal line, the Fridge grabbed him from behind and helped push him over, didn't throw him. The Fridge was flagged for a penalty, that isn't allowed.
I guess the guy who says he is an expert, isn't much of an expert now is he!
The reason Ditka put the Fridge in was to get revenge over Bill Walsh and the Niners. The Niners were beating the Bears and at the end of the game, Walsh put a big lineman in the backfield to basically taunt Ditka. That gave Iron Mike the idea, and it worked great. When it was the Bears turn to beat the Niners, Ditka inserted the Fridge into the backfield, two can play at that game!

He didn't. He was a defender, and once in a while he would line up in the backfield as a RB.
