Why must the so called "gangsters" who are typically black, ruin the english language? They are destroying the youth's vocabulary, and in general, making them really damn stupid., with that rap music and such. If you want to call it music even, but anywho...why do they do that?

I don't think your question is racist--

In response to your actual question, I believe that the "gangsters" are trying to be like their fellow rappers-- they all talk like that. well most of them..

Anyways, I don't even listen to that stuff-- I listen to good old rock n' roll.

thanks--

The reason that different pronunciations and vocabulary evolve, in this case Ebonics, but all over the world, is to give the feeling of belonging to a certain group, and to exclude others not in the group. Black men growing up in the inner city experience a violent enviornment rife with racial prejudice and financial and social pressure. Rap evolved it's lingo as a way to get the message across as to who could be trusted and who not, and why, in a way uniquely suited to it's audience and performers. It has been taken up by white youth, but many local rappers will never be known to white youth, and are the poets and philosophers of the ghetto.
One of the very important early rap groups, which did not at all cater to a white audience, was the Last Poets.
Black men in prison have also communicated and expressed themselves through rapping, which needs no instrument but the human voice and brain.
No one set out to ruin anything, but prominent Black rappers will not refuse the millions of dollars that young White kids will spend on their music.
Would you?
Rap's original purpose was survival in a hostile enviornment, with enjoyment and display on the side.
If you believe that it takes no talent to do what Snoop, Cube, and Eminem do, try it in front of a jaded Rap crowd, see how you do!

OK I think it is something to do with each generation trying to make their mark on the world. I agree that some of the vocabulary is bad but it is not just blacks that do this also have you ever really set down and listened to some of it. Yes I agree that some of it is pretty ruff but some of it tells of what is going on in their world to day and it lets others know they are not alone. I have a teen and I listen to it with her and like I said some of it is ruff but my parents said the same about what I listed to. what about you? Some of the music is funny and some can bring tears just like any other. and Oh for the record of stupid let me let you in on something My child just turned 20 she has three associates. degrees and needs 5 classes to get her bachelor degree I do not call that stupid. Most of the time it is the person that has to put them self forward.

I'm with you, Nerd. I believe the gangsters and gangster wannabes have definitely botched the English language. I really dislike rap too. But I don't believe that the sterotype is only black.

I would rephrase that question and change "gangster" to GHETTO, its not a black or white thing its a ghetto thing. I doubt theres any real reason for it other than they think it makes them appear cool or hard core, if the average person or business person decided to take up speaking like that, I'm sure the ghetto people would find another way to distinguish themselves from the ordinary~

its a culture, just because people may be different than you doesnt make them wrong, the same thing has been happening for years, for example- punk music, rock music, jazz music, all of them have there own clothing styles and language, maybe you should just be more accepting of others black or white
