The supermarkets are freezing out all the small shops and if we don't start supporting our independent shopkeepers we will run out of choices and will only get what the big superstores what to give us and quality will suffer.
That means No butchers, milkmen, bakers, green grocers, grocery shop,
florist, tobacconist, sweet shops, record shops, kitchen shops, haberdashery shops, card and stationery shops clothing and shoe shops, newsagents and book shops, pet food shops, chemists, post offices, dry cleaners, jewellery shops, insurance agents, credit card companies, broadband suppliers, petrol, gardening suppliers and car parts.
I could go on our town centres will die. If you don't use them you will lose them supermarkets are very useful but when they have got rid of all competition they will dictate to us what we can have and how much we will pay for it.
When they give a buy one get one free offers it is not them that meet the cost it is their suppliers who they already blackmail into giving them the good deals by stating they will not buy from them unless they get the goods for the price they want to pay, small companies have to consider how many jobs will be lost if they do not agree to the supermarkets demands. Tesco is one of the worst offenders.

as long as it isn't asda i'm fine. I can think of worse companies to take over the world. They will start stocking electrical goods next and maybe put comets out of business. Something like 1 out of every £8's is spent in supermarkets or perhaps just tesco.
Bottome line: if people don't want tesco to take over the world, they need to stop their two faced moaning and start supporting your local shops and specialist retailers.

Tesco are indeed a global brand with big ambitions. Despite trouble with the Thai Government they want to increase the number of stores in Thailand from 300 to 500. The next crusade is into the States. Mr Buffet has given them a nod of approval by buying a few million shares and Ive seen my shares rise 20% + this year. Im sure TESsie COhen could not have foreseen such things when he started his little business.

It is. They have entered in the big asian markets like India and China. Already big in europe.
But in Europe the market is changing a lot as the discounters like aldi and lidl are eating the market share. Reason - there is a big middle class or price consious people class to whom Tesco is catering to and discounters are attacking these lower end of the market.

it's up to the consumers. If you want good value good quality stuff and buy from a slick operation you go to tesco.
if you want cheap but are prepared to go to a less organised store with fewer people on the checkouts resulting in longer queues, go to Asda
I don't understand the british public slamming Tesco all the time. I think it's a brilliant business and wish I bought the shares a year ago.
I know they have the purchasing power to squeeze margins from their suppliers, but all this is done to give the public their goods at a lower price. If people are willing to pay more for their groceries, I don't see them at Waitrose

No walmart is the biggest retailer in the world and onother french company (don't know name) , walmart owns asda in U.K. , But as usual if any british company does well it gets knocked down by its own people (most british can't handle others having success). Well done TESCO for competing on the world market
