The I-Pod is a brand name for an MP3 player. There are lots of MP3's players out there that aren't as expensive as I-Pods.

iPod is a brand of mp3 players. Putting music on it is usually simple. I recomend not to give your 9 yr-old an iPod, cauz it's very expensive and not durable. The iPod Nano cost about $149-$249 (depends on how much songs it can hold). The Video Ipods (can play Videos) cost $249 or $349 (again, it depends on how much songs it can hold). It's freakin expensive. And with the iPod Nano, you can break it with only one drop. The iPod Video take about 10 drops to make it die, but still, not very durable. And i dont trust your 9 yr-old, whoever she is. Try the ZenV (Creative product) Very durable and less expensive.

The ipod is the apple brand of a portable music player. It is not really a mp3 player. It plays apple's AAC files which you can convert using itunes. Itunes is used with an ipod. Mp3 players play mp3 files.

I would start him out with an iPod Nano (Mp3 player) You hook it up by a USB cable that will go into the USB port. The iPod Nano will then hook up to iTunes where he can buy and download music.
go to apple.com for more information. They might have people there that can help you. Good Luck!
