I was washing my daughters jeans today and when I went through her pockets I found thirty dollars. My daughter is thirteen and doesn't get an allowance so I was wondering if I should be alarmed or if there's a reasonable explanation to this money. I'd like to know how to confront her and I was wondering what the possible explanations are.

She either sold something to get it, or more likely snagged it out of yours or dad's wallet.

Asking may be more complicated because if you just say "here's the money I found in your pants while doing laundry", she may turn the tables and yell "can't I have privacy, and what where you doing rummaging through my stuff." I know you are the parent and have the right to do laundry and cleaning the pockets is a must before laundry is done, but you also have the right to investigate because your daughter is so young. I would first tell her that you are not mad but the Suspense of not knowing where the money came from is hurting you emotionally. Treat her like an adult because then she will feel equal enough to share with you. Above all else do not yell, scream, or get angry. Who knows she may be good at poker.

There is very likely to be an innocent explanation for this cash...You should probably just ask "If I find money in the laundry, does that mean I get to keep it?"... If your little girl was dealing drugs, or turning tricks, or engaging in some other nefarious but profitable activity, she wouldn't have "overlooked" the cash in her pockets.

Be very suspicious, however, if she says she was "looking after it for someone else"....

Hope it works out okay, strongly suspect it will...

Not to say thats he would but Are you missing any money?

Or she could have gotten it from someone at school. Any number of reasons could be the answer.

Just sit her down and tell her that while you were doing laundry that you found the money in her pants pocket. stay calm and don't accuse her, let her tell you then you can ask the questions....

just come out straight and tell her, "__ [daughter's name] i found thirty dollars in your pocket, knowing that you dont get allowance i want to know where you got the money from, i want you to be honest with me ..." along those lines anyway oh and be sure u tell her you wont get angry at her, unless she's dealing or doing anything against the law.

Just ask her- I wouldn't just automatically assume the worst. If she acts defensive, then I'd be suspicious. If she has a good explanation and doesn't seem upset that you found the money, then I'd just let it go and believe her. You have to trust your children- to a certain extent. My dad used to tell me when I was younger "I trust you as much as I can trust any teenager". Like I said, just ask.

just ask her. It's only 30 dollers. I'd be more conserned if you found $100 or more in her pocket. It's easy just ask..

"Oh... here's the money I found in your jeans today while doing the laundy. Where did you get it from anyways?"

Not many. Unless it is her birthday or holiday and she has access to the money given to her. Otherwise, there may be a problem if there is you might want to seek therapy right from the beginning to attempt to nip the problem in the bud

The worst possible situation; Dealing, putting out, stealing.

What it could be; She's keeping lunch money, taking bets, doing dares, ect.

Don't worry yourself about it. Just ask her. If she gets really nervous then involve your husband in the situation. If she's cool about it then your ok.
