WWII was the cause of Baby Boomers.
Governments gave parents an incentive to have children just in case another war loomed just around the corner.
With all the deaths caused by the war folks were scared that there'd be no one to defend their borders in the event of another war.

The Baby Boomers is a mixture of generations that is much more complex than many might suggest. For example the far Left Teen in the 50s was a Beat-nik and in the 60s a Hippie. In common they liked and created American Protest Music as a formal genre but generally the former preffered Jazz and Folk Music while the latter pushed Rock into Psychodellics and Heavy Metal's introduction.
Collectively they liberalized culture, obviously through the civil rights movement, but just as noticed is the American introduction to Eastern Religion, Yoga and Zen, and yes for want of personal realization through introspection they introduced the Drug Culture. Human Rights wasn't even mentioned before them!
College Education became the norm for this generation and so did casual sex until the AIDs Scare. Modern Art was still on the fringe and so was psychology when they were born and under them both became mainstream.
Beatniks felt fatalistically about the Cold War and domestic politics yet the Radical generation, the last gasp of the baby boomers, shut down the Viet Nam Case, changed the voting and driving legal age, were heavy on Art Education and the Humanities and made casual dress a fashion empire dispite being anti brand name!
Sex magazines moved from the cute little pin-up to hard porn and so did the content of movies. With the introduction of interests in Eastern Culture so too came martial arts schools and asian foods. Doctor Spock change the way we raise childern today, although I believe that needs to be re-examined.
At their peak News programs produced real commentary and Anchor Men had real opinions but this was all shut down by law suites in the mid to late 70s. At their lowest they produced the highest divorce rate ever!
The generations that came out of the Baby Boomers well beyond Civil Rights and Womens Rights did more to change art, cultue, humanities, philosophy, psychology, etc, than any other generation anywhere in history!
There is someone who signed-in before who made the comment that this generation is just now comming into it's political self, but they miss the whole point. In the Civil Rights Movement and the corresponding Riots it was people between the age of 12 and 30 that were the front line. That is to say even buying a pair of shoes is political. so is what you eat, and so youth do have political power and can effect change! Politicians may make and break the laws but it is the people on the street that show the will and intent and no government can stand without the peoples cooperation and compliance. This Baby-Boomers proved!

Baby Boomers were born from 1946-1964 (that includes me).
These people had a tremendous influence on society. The 60s is an excellent example of the Boomers in action. Many protested the Vietnam War and helped to bring it to an end.
Boomers influenced Rock Music. The Beatles, The Monkees, The Rolling Stones and many other groups influenced modern music.
Look at dress and culture, too. This group influenced how the clothing industry was influenced by Boomers' tastes. Blue jeans became part of the accepted culture. Prior to this, many people considered blue jeans to be part of the "underclass."
There are many books you can look into to see how the Boomers affected change in society. Ask at your local public library.

Baby Boomers: 1946-1964. They proved that there is strength in numbers. Brought about changes that people have today such as womens rights, civil rights, etc. Brought about changes to the music scene also. They are still going strong and not resting on their laurels. Now that they are aging they are becoming a voice in elder rights (medical care) for example. Overall the Baby Boomers showed that it was OK to question authority, showing alternative ways of doing things, and protesting to make changes in society.

I, being a baby boomer, have quite another viewpoint than those expressed here so far. My generation may have accomplished some social change, but you must remember we were not in charge, until the last 15 or 20 years. The proceeding generation, the greatest generation, had to sign off on any social change my generation proposed, as we were too young to be in power. Now that we have the power, it will remain to be seen whether my generation, admittedly self-indulgent, can effect any lasting change. We really did not have any great challenges, as the greatest generation had, until the World Trade Center was felled. Only history can pass on my generation; not the self serving people who are now among it.

Up until 1964. Many were involved in the Civil Rights struggle and the effort to end the conflict in Vietnam.

They listened to the likes of Timothy Leary,
a Professor at Berzerkly who preached to
Students to "Tune Out" and "Turn On " to
Marijuana. "It's harmless" he said.
Ha!!! Now you can't walk the streets for fear
of being shot by dealers of Pot. Can't even
sleep in your bed for fear of a bullet coming through the wall and killing someone.
Law enforcement has lost control and don't know how
to fix it. Pot-heads in government legalize it. Other Government Officials enacted Laws making it Illegal
to own, buy, sell, grow, use, etc. etc. but they don't
do much to try to stop the trafficing in dope.
Bah! Humbug!!!
