My lawn is more weed than grass!! It may be too late to plant, I'm in Wisconsin, but I'd like a nice lawn next summer. Any suggestions?

It's to late this year. You could put down a good weed and feed in the spring.
Any thing that would work well killing weeds could cause problems for pets. It would be best for children not to play there.
If you can keep them off the yard for 3-4 days it should be okay.

First, I want to tell you that this is very second hand. But I had a friend who helped her friend inject lemon juice into the center part of the weed (the juiciest part) as far into the root base as they could go with the syringe. She said that it killed all the Blackberry bushes without killing her spring flowers or the grass around it. Just make sure that you are injecting it into the plant and not the dirt.
I know that this is fairly labor intensive, but she said that it got rid of weeds that you need a goat to get rid of. Best of luck!

Boiling water will kill most weeds. Your grass to unfortunately but it is the only 100% safe remedy.

selective herbicide that won't kill your specific grass ( usually warm weather & topical application )
pre emergance herbicide twice a year, stops germination, # one get summer weeds, # 2 gets winter weeds assuming anything grows in Wisconsin in winter!
this is a 1 year project but worth it

Do the proper landscaping,level the land and buy a ready made lawn bed and use like a carpet.

Somewhere I heard of making a fertilizer with dishsoap and beer and garlic powder...dilute it in water, and spray on your lawn.
The best thing to keep weeds out is a thick, tight lawn....overseed it thoroughly, that is the best way, but it will take many years.......

Put your dog and kids inside the house so they don't get hurt. Use weed killer. This is at Wal-Mart.

get weed killer or you can put salt on it. but salt will kill any thing around it to.
