The Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden? By Steinbeck? I finished East of Eden yesterday, and I read Wrath in the summer, and I just bought about 6 of Steinbeck's other books. Its hard to read "other" authors now.

Btw, would you categorize him as a naturalist or a realist?

Steinbeck is no doubt one of the greatest writers we have ever had and I believe his books will remain alive as long as people are human and have emotions, he is great either way

I loved the Grapes of Wrath, but haven't read East of Eden yet.
I enjoyed Mice and Men. I prefer short books.

I agree, these are some of the most amazing books EVER. keep going, and delve into more classics. i can truly attest that starting reading steinbeck at the age of 12 really made me want to explore classics and seek out inspirational writing like i never had before. I thought that East of Eden was especially amazing, and although the family history seemed tiresome at the time, but it really added to the depth of the novel as a whole.

I read Grapes of Wrath in high school as a homework assignment...we were suppossed to read a couple chapters a week and then discuss it in class...I liked it SO much I finished it in 2 nights. Never read East of Eden...but I also read Of Mice and Men and really liked it. I read one other by him..Tortilla Flat, but found it to be very boring.
