South Phoenix. Approx 7th St to 7th Ave and Broadway to Dobbins area. I know the university has some clubs too, not sure if they are limited to students or not. There is actually a free African dancing class held at Eastlake Community Center on Saturday mornings, attracts a range of people but the main dancers and drummers probably have a lot of cultural info. - FYI: Mesa is known as the Mormon district. :-) West side is more hispanic. I grew up in South Phx, I'm not quite sure why it has not become more integrated over the years but it still is mostly African American.

I've had lunch at the Applebees at 2180 E. Baseline Rd a couple times with a friend who lives a few miles away. I've noticed that the majority of the patrons are black. I hope that doesn't make me a bad person for noticing but I live in an area of Phoenix that is mostly Hispanic and White and I wondered, at the time, if there was an area around there that was more black and less other stuff.

Also, you might try connecting with the Greater Phoenix Urban League (https://www.gphxul.org/cgi-bin/WebObjects/gpul). "The mission of the Greater Phoenix Urban League is to assist African Americans, other minorities and the disadvantaged in the achievement of social and economic equality." I did a project with them a while back and all of the employees were really nice. I don't know if they fit in the age category but they might be able to hook you up with groups in Phoenix they know about. Also, they have a young professionals meeting next week on Oct 19.

try central phoenix, or the more west side of central phoenix. that area however, is an unfortunate area and not the safest place. I dont see very much black people here though in general, its mainly whites and mexicans. where i go to school theres like less than 50 african americans out of around 2000 students. ive lived here my whole life and i dont really think there is any area where the majority is black people.
