Technically, they are all sisters. The original three were Prue, Piper and Phoebe. Prue died and Piper and Phoebe found out that they had a half-sister, Paige.

Phoebe, Piper and Prue are full sisters then when Prue died they found out that thier mother had fell in love with a whitelighter and had a baby (Paige) she gave her up to save her idenity from the demons or something or other. So there are only three now as well just Paige is a half sister. Prue is not there anymore

Well, to be honest it is all down to opinion. I think people tend to prefer when Paige (Rose McGowan) was one of the sisters because she was on the show longer and so people grew to like her better. I also think people liked to see Piper (Holly Marie Combs) handling being the big sister and the different sides of all them that we got to see. Also, Piper had most trouble adjusting to Paige because she missed Prue (Shannon Doherty) so much and almost held Paige responsible for what had happened to her and the horrible predicament they were put in because of it. Shannon Doherty was fired from the show because demands she was constantly making (e.g. extra things for her dressing room and a higher wage) were refusing to be met by the people in charge of the show. That is also why the end of Series 3, and beginning of Series 4, are so confusing - it wasn't planned in the script that she'd be fired obviously but it was too late to re-shot the episode, so it was aired. In my opinion, they did reform and become close quickly but Piper's reluctance to Paige at the beginning helps balance it all out. And it was also very nice to see Piper work through her issues with and about Paige and accept her into the family. Finally, I do prefer it with Paige because I think they go through more of a journey together than they did with Prue. They overcome more and pull together as the Charmed Ones and as sisters. It really does show their connection building over time and how close they have become, which I think was critical to all of the roles because their connection as sisters holds their power. And it is that which beats all of the Demons and dark forces which try to kill them in each and every episode. Hope this helps!! :)

When Pru died there were only 2. Then they came up with Paige who is their half-sister. Same mother, different father (a white lighter)

one of the sisters died i think it was prue. i kinda stopped watching it after they killed the charecter off (played by shannon doherty) Because her and alyssa milano (phoebe) got in a disagreement on the show. seems that when the cameras went off so did the girls. go figure.

Paige came along after Pru died. She is the daughter of Patty ( the girls' mom) and her whiltelighter Sam.
