Trees: in Spring, cut half way through a growing twig end, split along the twig towards the tree, stuff some wet peat moss into split and surround the area with damp peat moss, then wrap with saran warp.. Chances are good that the split will grow roots and you can then sever and plant.
Forget about rose bushes if you live in cold climate..roses are grafted to wild rose root systems to give them strong roots, etc. Good luck

I am good at propagation, but know nothing about trees.....a couple of weeks ago a friend snapped a branch from a willow tree to give me. In two weeks time it has rooted in water with about 7 stems I put in....I took all theleaves off when I got it, put a clear plastic bag around the neck of the jar and leaves are growing everywhere (even under the water)...going to leave the plastic until I know it is rooted well...so excited....
I could answer your rose bush question , but I don't know where you live or your zone number.....feel free to email me

Not all trees will grow this way.

Willows & poplar can. There may be others.
Some can grow by just sticking it in the groud & keeping it moist.

You would need a good root stock to graft cuttings to.

They do this with fruit trees & roses.

Wrap a branch with damp sphagum moss and enclose in saran wrap. Tape the ends. Give it a while and it will grow roots. Then cut off the branch with the roots.
