exercise definately helps. i am a gymnast and luckily i dont get cramps! (unless i start on a day that i dont have gym). of course you dont need to go that extreme, but on the day before youre suppose to start, try maybe running or jogging. just keep moving around. also, advil and a heating pad works wonders.

When you think your period is coming, start taking tylenol 2 days before it. A gynecologist said so on Oprah. Also, exercising really does help. It totally helps me. I run everyday during my period. If you aren't a running type person, just take a walk around the neighborhood, or dance to your favorite cd. It relieves pain, and it's fun. Also, warm tea, heating pads, midol, or putting a warm water bottle on your lower stomach or back helps. If you're feeling down in the dumps, try meditating (deep breathing), reading, drawing, or talking to a friend. Stay away from caffeine, chocolate (chocolate has caffiene), really salty foods, and really sugary foods. I'm always craving sweets during that time of month but they give me KILLER cramps. Hope this helped!

Believe it or not, exercise will actually make your cramps better. That doesn't mean bench pressing 200 pounds, just walking, dancing, and moving around in general. I also found that warm tea with honey worked too. Try taking an Advil or Aleve if the cramps are really bad.

Well for me I do something similiar to "crunches".
(Sitting in a chair and move your head towards your feet . Repeat as needed)
That is if you don't have any pamprin lying around. To keep my mind off the pain, i'm doing other things: watching tv/dvd, doing chores etc.

I have a pillow that vibrates and I lay on my back and just put the pillow on my stomach. You could also lay on your stomach and have the pillow under you. The vibrations help my cramps. Sometimes when the cramps are really bad I get on my knees on the side of my bed, then lean over and take deep breathes. I also take very hot showers.

My doctor recommended 800 mg of Ibuprofen in the morning, again at lunch, and then again before bed. She said it helps with decreasing prostaglandins (spelling?), which cause cramping, and also decreases blood flow. I have been doing that the last three months and it has helped me immensely.

Take Excederin, the aspirin in it will thin out your blood so your cramps won't be so tough to deal with. Hot showers and baths always soothe my pain. Drink a lot of water to get rid of bloating. Stay away from really salty foods. That's all I can think of.
