In the UK would dearly love to see some of our horrible little "Chavs" and "Hoodies" conscripted.
American style Military Boot Camps with Drill Sargeants who make your life a living hell would be particularly welcome. I'd love to see them have to get up at 5am to do a 15 mile run before breakfast, clean their kit and be ready for parade at 7am sharp, with a huge, scary Sargeant Major in your face if you're a second late!
It would do them good.
Might teach them some respect for themselves and for others and stop them being such a drain and misery to society.
Trouble is, you'd find that the little shites would just join a pointless college course or something ("Media Studies") to get away from doing their National Service. There's always some stupid Leftie who will stick up for their "human rights "(hey we must'nt call them "yobs" now must we?)
So I propose any little shite who gets into trouble with the police - car thieves, shoplifters, underage drinkers, those who hang around on street corners harassing people, vandals etc, be conscripted. Knock some sense into them.

Not into the army if they don't want to, but maybe into some kind of community-based work. Litter-picking, waste management, recycling, water-pipe replacement...and all the stuff the councils never seem to find enough cash for. Mending bashed-in phone-boxes and bus-stops. Clearing all the rubbish off the railways. There's a LOT of stuff they could usefully do.

Definitely not.
It is unfair to force someone into serving in the military. Especially if they really don't want to be there - who knows what could happen.
I am ex military myself and I would never go back.
It should definitely however, be an option for those that are unemployed, as well as other things, like community service, volunteer work etc.

The conscription should only be used when the US millitary really really desperately needs troops, or when US territory is being invaded.

I have said this for a while.
It would give them an income, motivation and teach them life skills as well as offering them the chance to train for work.
It would also get a lot of the neds (chavs) off our streets and reduce the crime rate.
Unfortunately it would be taking away their human rights so it wouldnt be allowed.
