If it is the U Bolt the holds the spring against the axel housing, use a torch on the nut or use a hack saw across the bolt itself. if you are changing the springs, most spring shops I deal with will provide you with the new u bolts.

Are you talking about a U joint bolt, or the U bolt for the spring or the bolt that holds the ring gear? P B Blaster and a little heat. There is an old mechanic's trick, try to tighten it a little before you try to take it out. This sometimes works, it pulls the bolt away from the rust. Just don't use a lot of pressure.

Be willing to destroy the bolt and/or nut. Sorry, but best advice. Sometimes that is the cost of rust. If you are intent on not destroying the bolt by cutting it or such, then let it soak in a good penetrating liquid. There are many on the market, but the most common is WD-40. I wouldn't say it is the best, but it is the most common.

Thumbs up to the guy who said PB Blaster. It'll eat rust like my fat sister eats a handful of McD's fries. Cut it off, you can use a dremel with a cut off wheel, a cut off wheel on a high speed drill, a cutting torch, or a wrench and a piece of pipe about four feet long, the good thing about rusty ubolts is that they usually snap so you don't have to keep wrenching.

Some penetrating oil, such as WD40, would help. Also try tapping on the bolt, if it's rusted, try flaking off some of the rust.

Don't laugh! Pour some Coke-a-cola on it and let it sit for a while or overnight. The acid in the soda pop eats away at the mess and frees it.
