I have the DVD (it's will be released Tuesday, 10/17) and will be watching it later tonight. I'll try to let you know then.

UPDATE:
I just finished watching the movie including the alternate ending and, honestly, it's only about 30 seconds longer (if that) with nothing of real importance being added. You didn't miss anything except close-ups of the ambassador as he lay dying and of the Pope as a Bishop tells him what has happened.
