Good thinking. For a while now, I thought the prophecy was meant for Neville. And also, for a while now, I have thought the 2 people that are going to die are Neville and Voldemort. Neville has been developing extraordinary wizarding powers and will continue to do so. Neville will save Harry, but when he kills Voldemort, he dies too. That is what I think, I do not think Harry will die, however. I like your theory though.
Want to talk about some other theories?
RAB? I do not think RAB is Regulus. Too obvious. I think it is Mr. Borgin of Borgin and Burkes.
The final horcrux? No, I do not think it is his scar. I think it is Dumbledore. Think about it. DD wouldn't be begging for someone to save his life! He was wanting to die for some reason! And I think Snape knew! He is a horcrux. I think either him, or the wand in Ollivander's shop that makes Harry feel *magical*.
I think Harry's parents are behind the veil that Sirius fell in!
So. Good theory. What do you think about mine?

J.K. Rowling basically answers this question in her own words on her official website. It is a rather long answer, so I'm not going to include all of it, just what is most significant. But, basically, she states quite clearly that Harry is the one that the prophecy referred to and that it definitely doesn't apply to Neville. So, even though you have an interesting theory, according to the author it isn't right. If you go to the F.A.Q.'s -- About the Books section, she responds to the question: What is the significance of Neville being the other boy to whom the prophecy might have referred?
"To recap: Neville was born on the 30th of July, the day before Harry, so he too was born 'as the seventh month dies'. His parents, who were both famous Aurors, had 'thrice defied' Voldemort, just as Lily and James had. Voldemort was therefore presented with the choice of two baby boys to whom the prophecy might apply. However, he did not entirely realize what the implications of attacking them might be, because he had not heard the entire prophecy. As Dumbledore says: 'He [the eavesdropper] only heard the beginning, the part foretelling the birth of a boy in July to parents who had thrice defied Voldemort. Consequently, he could not warn his master that to attack you would be to risk transferring power to you.'
In effect, the prophecy gave Voldemort the choice of two candidates for his possible nemesis. In choosing which boy to murder, he was also (without realizing it) choosing which boy to anoint as the Chosen One - to give him tools no other wizard possessed - the scar and the ability it conferred, a magical window into Voldemort's mind. So, where does this leave Neville, the boy who was so nearly King? Well, it does not give him either hidden powers or a mysterious destiny. He remains a 'normal' wizarding boy, albeit one with a past, in its way, as tragic as Harry's. As you saw in 'Order of the Phoenix,' however, Neville is not without his own latent strengths. It remains to be seen how he will feel if he ever finds out how close he came to being the Chosen One.

Nope. Harry is the chosen one. Voldemort literally "marked" him as equal. It's already been said that it's Harry. Now Neville will play a big part in it. I think he's definitely going to take out Bellatrix Lestrange. But Neville is NOT the one.

that's possible. my friend thinks that Dumbledore and possibly Black aren't dead and they're just pretending to so Voldemort will think they're out of the way and get more careless, but then again she still likes Snape. I have a theory that perhaps one of the horcruxes are in Harry's scar which would make it impossible to kill Voldemort without killing Harry. either way i think Harry will unfortunately die because J.K. Rowling doesn't want anyone one to continue the series. i hope that doesn't happen but u never know.

aww man! harry cant die! what if neville has been marked as voldies equal but he is evil too (teased too many times, parents crazy, etc...) so harry kills voldie only to have neville slowly becoming another voldemort right beside him! wait, that sucks too, i just have to wait for the book :o(

That's entirely likely.
I'd like it to be that Harry & Neville together destroy he-who-shall-not-yada-yada. Harry's bent on doing it himself as revenge, but I think it will come down to only the two of them together can actually finish him, that's why Harry's failed each time.

I like it, really.
Generally, I don't bother. I'm too old to get involved in such literature, but I read everything to practice my english and because I'm a teacher of literature, so wanted to know what's in there in children literature...
