Dante's Prayer by Loreena McKennitt
When the dark wood fell before me
And all the paths were overgrown
When the priests of pride say there is no other way
I tilled the sorrows of stone
I did not believe because I could not see
Though you came to me in the night
When the dawn seemed forever lost
You showed me your love in the light of the stars
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Then the mountain rose before me
By the deep well of desire
From the fountain of forgiveness
Beyond the ice and fire
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Though we share this humble path, alone
How fragile is the heart
Oh give these clay feet wings to fly
To touch the face of the stars
Breathe life into this feeble heart
Lift this mortal veil of fear
Take these crumbled hopes, etched with tears
We'll rise above these earthly cares
Cast your eyes on the ocean
Cast your soul to the sea
When the dark night seems endless
Please remember me
Please remember me
or I'm Going Home by Mary Fahl
They say theres a place , where dreams have all gone
They never said where, but I think I know
Its miles through the night just over the dawn
On the road that will take me home
I know in my bones, I've been here before
The ground feels the same, tho the land's been torn
I've a long way to go, the stars tell me so
On this road that will take me home.
Love waits for me round the bend
Leads me endlessly on
Surely sorrows shall find their end
and all our troubles will be gone
And I know what I've lost, and all that I won
when the road finally takes me home
And when I pass by , don't lead me astray
Don't try and stop me , don't stand in my way
I'm bound for the hills where cool waters flow
on this road that will take me home
Love waits for me round the bend
Leads me endlessly on
Surely sorrows shall find their end
and all our troubles will be gone
And we'll know what we've lost and all that we've won
when the road finally takes me home.
I'm going home
I'm going home
I'm going home
I can't decide which one both are very beautiful to listen to. Dante's Prayer is simple and haunting and Going Home is epic in a Braveheart kind of way. I'm wanting to get WB Yeats poem The Two Trees placed on my tombstone maybe engraved in wood or resin.

'Do you realize?' By the Flaming Lips. Read the lyrics, they're perfect. And the music is so uplifting too. I think it would make people leave the funeral realizing how precious life is.
Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize - we're floating in space -
Do You Realize - that happiness makes you cry
Do You Realize - that everyone you know someday will die
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun don'-go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Do You Realize - Oh - Oh - Oh
Do You Realize - that everyone you know
Someday will die -
And instead of saying all of your goodbyes - let them know
You realize that life goes fast
It's hard to make the good things last
You realize the sun don'-go down
It's just an illusion caused by the world spinning round
Do You Realize - that you have the most beautiful face
Do You Realize

The Parting Glass by the Clancy Brothers
or
What's Left of The Flag by Flogging Molly

I'm Eastern Orthodox so no music is allowed during the funeral service.
If I were secular, I would pick a folk song which translates as "The Sun has set and the day has come to a close."

First off, this is one of the best questions I've heard in a while. Maybe Danzig - Going Down to Die, or something else by him, most people want something depressing but i wouldn't do that to the people at my funeral so either something ironic or humorous or something more uplifting

Homie Don't Play That by The Geto Boys/Willie D
Just because it is without question one of the funniest songs that i've heard in my life & i would not want anyone to play some sad, boring music at my funeral.
