That is an excellent idea, but it would never fly because human rights activists would scream about a person's right to breathe. It would also be a source of cheap labor if you offered prisoners a stint on an off-world terraforming expedition in lieu of jail time (instead of a year in jail, do two years offworld). Same law you had--no work, no air. I think it would work just fine.

A century or 2, as quickly as the technologies is obtainable. Going out to the Asteroid Belt and pushing somewhat some ice and CO2 asteroids at Mars will help. we are able to genetically engineer flora which will strengthen at extreme altitudes, low air tension and freezing situations. because of the fact the extra water and CO2 start to catch extra warmth, the flora will strengthen including extra oxygen. the final which would be was hoping for is an equatorial section comparable in climate to the extreme Andes, because of the low gravity no longer being waiting to hold plenty environment. there have been many severe discussions and study made, no longer sci-fi, with regards to ways it may be achieved. many of the so-noted as solutions given have been from dolts who snicker at something they do no longer understand and a few have been solid. Why terraform Mars? because of the fact if we are able to we are able to stay there without pressuresuits and strengthen flora for oxygen and food different than in pressurised domes, which might continuously be dangerous to do, then we are able to have possible colonies there in case we stupidly wipe ourselves out right here or get hit via a doomsday asteroid. Venus is merely too warm and can be far harder to quiet down, requiring a sunscreen in area and a few flora that may drift interior the cooler air of extreme altitude on an analogous time as they turn the ambience into something breatheable and much less warmth conserving. possibly flora which use hydrogen bladders to maintain them aloft. yet whilst Venus have been terraformed it fairly is in all probability that the poles might extra habitable and the equatorial section might stay too warm. plenty might count on the exhibit screen protecting the sunlight's warmth at bay. Air tension may be extra like Earth-commonly used than on Mars.

I really like the idea of using the crims for useful tasks, I would use them to test new drugs and cosmetics on instead of animals.

However I'm sorry but I am not sure I agree with terraforming Mars. What if there are indigenous life forms that would be wiped out, also there may be germs there that would kill everyone on Earth if they escaped, and sooner or later they would.

When the English invaders invaded my country, thousands and thousands of people here died like flies from the common cold, which is actually quite a serious and deadly disease, just that we are toughened to it from long exposure, and I would fear something like that happening, only worse.

As for the crims sod them and their rights. They would not be in prison had they cared about others' rights.

just my opinion. not saying anyone has to think like me or agree with me but i really hate when people suggest prisoners to do certain things as if they're not humans as well. yeah they are offenders and yeah some has committed some horrible crimes. but again they are human. they get it enough cleaning up the side of the roads and being paid less than minimal wage. now if you said child molesters that's different. i apologize for the biased attitude but i have issues with child molesters. i feel they can not be rehabilitated and i really think there should be a law that they should be castrated. sorry but that's me~
