An overseas friend wants me to try using Skype so we can talk using the computer. Is there anything I should think about before trying it? Is it really free? (except for the digital headset, of course)

By the way, do I need to get a USB hub so I won't have to unplug the USB phone? I read I could lose the settings if I unplugged the headset. If so what kind of hub would I need for a desktop?

Yep, computer to computer chat is free. You dont even need the headset if you already have one of your own.

PC tp PC calls are free on skype, only if you want to call regular phone numbers you have to buy credits.
I like the quality of sound and especialy the video quality.
I recomand you skype for video&voice chat.

Yes, but only for about 6 months. Then they charge you for air time. I believe you also have to fill out a payment form. I didn't like the quality of the voice coming from it. They have a lot of work to do before i will sign up with them again.
