She is at riskof being sold to a pet store because of my mom. She is about two months old and I ALWAYS let her walk onto my hand before a take her out of her ten gal. tank plus tank topper shared with her mom. All I did was set my hand down on the floor she was playing on and she bit hard.

Maybe she has a raging case of "little man's syndrome". Perhaps you should rename her "Lord Farquad" (from Shrek).

How long have you had the hamster?

I've had quite a few (my sister loves em) and I can say that when you buy a new hamster (especially a young one) it is friskier, jumpier, and it is also going to be more agressive because it is still adjusting to its new environment (even if you have the best cage in the universe, its still someplace new and the hamster would be freaked out). I would give the hamster about a week to calm down before picking it up or messing with it, just make sure that it is used to your presence so that when you do play with it, it doesn't percieve you as a threat. You know, talk to it, change its food often, just let it get used to you.

If you have had the hamster for a while, it could have just been a "wrong place/wrong time" thing. My sister had a hamster named Cookie and it was always so sweet to her and it loved my parents too. One day my sister went to go take Cookie out of her cage and the hamster bit her so hard her hand was bleeding.

Face it, it's a rodent, not exactly the brightest crayon in the box of animal kingdom crayons. If it is freaked out, it's not going to sit and think before acting, its just gonna bite.

Ask your mom to keep it for another month or explain to her that the hamster was probably just scared and it was defending itself. Your hamster will definatley calm down over time. Old hamsters are the best because they aren't agressive and they are more willing to be touched and played with.

I hope everything works out okay!

It could be that you just startled her, hamsters are very short sighted. Also there could have been a scent on your hand that she thought was nice, as in edible food nice.
You say she shares her tank with her mother?? You should really think about separating them, once they get to a certain age they will fight so that too could be a reason why she bit you.
If she has not been agressive before then there shouldn't be a recurring problem as long as you let her know you are near, I make clicking noises when I go near mine plus I tap the cage with my nail so that she knows Im there.
Good luck with her.

Be sure to wash your hands before playing with her. She might smell food or other pets, and want to eat you, or feel threatened. If this doesn't solve the problem, she might just be agressive, or depending on the age, she might be maturing. It sounds like you're doing a great job though, so keep up the good work! :)
PS- try feeding her carrots. dont let her touch you, just the carrot!
PPS- you might be playing with her too much. hamsters get grumpy if you handle them more than every other day.

Why no longer be slightly greater adventorous inclusive of your puppy's names? you assert they're to Russing dwarf hamsters? p.c. Russian names like: Elena and Helga or Olga and Anna, or Kyra and Maya or Nadia and Nikita. yet of the names you reported i like Misty and Shadow the superb.
