If you are on state assistance, whatever child support the court orders for your child's father to pay will go to the state. Once you are off of cash assistance, the child support that he pays will come to you.
Child support will continue until your child graduates from high school but no later than 19 1/2.
Contact your local child support agency for specific information on child support in your state!

I'm not going to knock you for being on government aid like some other people. I understand whats its like to be a young single mother and try to afford the costs of having a child (Dr visits, hospital visits, clothes, formula..etc) and sorry to inform those of you who disagree but McDonald's or Wal-Mart don't pay all the bills.
So first things first, when you apply for government aid they assign you a case worker, they will also get you set up to collect the support you are entitled too.
He will have to fill out a financial affidavit as will you listing your income and household bills. The state will take it over from there. He will be advised how much he has to pay monthly and sometimes it is directly taken out of his check. The money is then sent to a disbursement center where it is processed and noted that he has paid however much. The check will then get sent to you in the form of a state check.
Theres really no questioning involved, most states have a mathematical formula that calculates the cost of child support per child based on income.
That's about it, your off and running. Good luck with your baby, take good care of her/him as they are our future.

Generally, once you apply and receive the TANF grant (temp. assistance for needy families) the state will then persue the paying parent for support. It generally will take about two months for them to start receiving the money. At that time, if the child support is higher than the TANF grant, you will have to cancel support from welfare, in order to begin receiving the child support. It's a lengthy process, but they should help you.

So you listed the baby's father on the report? Then the court will take a look at his finances and yours and then determin how much a month he will have to owe to you. Its a pretty easy and painless process.

what happens is if your receiving support from welfare then you submit for child support ,the welfare deducts the amount of child support you receive from your allowance..and they usually ask how you pay rent,do u work, how much you make if you work, etc.

As far as i know the court will collect it for you if he isnt paying you on time. And if he doesnt pay them ,well he will get a few days to come up with it or spend some time in jail to reconcider his attitude on this subject. After all it is contempt of court!
