Serotonin levels .

Serotonin is a chemical that your body produces when it's happy. Many get high levels of serotonin from petting their pets. In relationships, we start off with high levels of "Dopamine" (love sick chemical). Dopamine is like the drug cocaine ... after you experience it, you need more to get that same love sick feeling. After you both adjust to the love sickness you give each other then you start to produce serotonin.

Serotonin is very powerful. It is built up when the couple undergoes life forces (marriage, kids, mortgage, vacations, illnesses). Even the bad stuff can strengthen the serotonin levels which is why so many abused woman find it hard to leave. The longer and deeper you are into the relationship, the stronger the serotonin levels are. This is why many elderly ( & dolphins) will die within a year of their spouse dying ... litterally, the bond between them can litterally kill them and they will die of heart break. A little sad ... but in my opinion, sadder not to have found anyone to share a life with and build seritione with.

Because we have taken them for granted when we were with them. When they are gone we only seem to remember the good times we had with them and we embellish on those and turn them into great fantasies.

When they were around we just assumed they would be there forever and didn't treat them as special as we did in the beginning.

I know what you mean. I split up with someone recently coz I wasnt really that interested in her, never saw eachother so on. For weeks after though, she was all I could think about. Every thing reminded me of her.
Its a thousand times worse when someone dies though. There is no pain like it.

Think of your toes, . . . you go through days without really paying close attention to your toes. But when you accidentally kick the table leg or then you cant stop paying attention to the stubbed toe, until as with your hearts hurt, the pain subsides. Which is where the saying comes from: "Time heals all wounds"

Same as when you lose your keys. You miss them. Unless it's love scorned, then you TRY to lose them.

You simply don't appreciate things or people that are there all the time, you take it for granted until they disappear.

Because you have no chance to make any new memories. You take people for granted -- when you take anything for granted, you miss it when it's gone.
