Don't shoot the messenger, this is an example: When the Dixie Chicks made their anti-Bush comments, many fans turned on them, radio stations did not want to play their music anymore. An update on this situation would be appreciated.

Let's say you enjoy music a particular group puts out. But then they do something that upsets you, for whatever reason, and you don't have an interest in their music anymore. You've been a loyal fan of their music since their beginning, or your beginning, whichever came later, etc.

Their acts on stage, their political views, the message in their songs, a band member's indiscretion, WHAT would make you turn against your favorite band, or singer? Or oppositely, what would motivate you to SUPPORT a band or singer, having previously depised them?

Is it all about the music, or the story behind the music?

If i like a band, it's because of the music they play. There's nothing that they could say that would make me want to hate them. Actually, my favorite band is the dixie chicks, and i didn't care that they say that they are ashamed of the president, they said that because they didn't want the American soldiers to die. But the fact that people were burning their records and accusing them of being traitors made me want to stand up for them and support their music even more than before. But their actual statement didn't make me like them more, in fact even though reba mcentire dissed them, i still like her songs. To me it's all about the music.

Here's an update on the dixie chicks: most radio stations (most owned by clear channel) still don't play their music, they won't even advertise their concerts and that's why less people have shown up at the shows, they play for like 2/3 of the audience they had on the last tour. GAC doesn't play their videos (new or old), and even though their new album is (according to critics) one of the best albums of the year (of any genre), the Country Music Association didn't nominate them at all for this year's CMA Awards.

If you want to know more about the incident, you should watch the documentary "Shut Up And Sing" , it comes out later this month.

I don't think anything could. When I listen to music I don't care about the band or singer or anything. I hate a lot of singers but may like some of their songs. So, unless they killed my family or publicly critizied me or my family or friends, I wouldn't care.

Okay, the bands I like (MCR PATD FOB, etc.)...
There is no way you could make me hate them. I don't care if they have a gay singer, or if they like, dissed the war/bush at a concert or anything like that- it's about the music to me.

To make me like a band I hated? Uhm...really I hated FOB before but I read more about them, found out about Pete's suicidal struggles and stuff like that and I decided to listen to their music and ended up liking them....weird, huh?

if my favorite band's music was suddenly shown on mtv or played on the radio & the next thing you know they're writing music differently, playing music differently, and have a whole new look simply for the sake of being "popular", that's when i would lose interest.

I'd hate my favorite band if they publicly endorsed a politician. I don't want celebrities to yell, "Vote for ___." It's one of the dirtiest political acts you can do and shows moral corruption.

if they say a racist comment toward any race it would make me hate them. but if they diss bush for example or any other political person i couldn't care because everybody is entitled to an opinion.

They would have to do something really dumb, like making music that made no sense or something, I don't know.
never really thought about it
