Turned on my pc today, and i can't get volume. I check everything... although i shouldn't have to check anything because i didn't do anything. I plugged in headphones - same problem, no sound. wtf

I've restarted my pc. Turned off my pc, waited 5 mins, turned it back on again. Checked sound and audio about 10 times now. And if the speakers were blown, i should be able to hear through headphones :o(

got it at future shop, it's an HP....sigh.

If I were you I would check the controls again. Also try the SETTINGS, CONTROL PANEL, and run the troubleshooter. You might have muted, reduced the volume, or did some other goofy error. The odds of the sound failing in a new laptop are very slim (not impossible - but slim).

Did you check for muted volume? My HP/Compaq has a mute button that is not clearly marked and is easy to accidentally press.

Ask the place where you bought the laptop if it is still under warrantee. If not specifically, you may have an implied warrantee for defective parts, and you can ask the manufacturer about that.

most likely the driver for your audio card was deleted in some way. Reinstall it.

Either that or you were listening to music or something too loud and you shorted the audio card.
