They are some of the most tame lizards they are. A good choice but try and get one that is around a year old because the first year is the hardest to raise them. My wife can take ours with her in the summer out in the car and the dragon will just lay on her shoulder. By far the better choice but a little more costly than others.

Funny. I just got off the phone with someone who wanted to know what lizard breed would be best to hold and easy to take care of. I recommended Bearded Dragons ans Chinese Water Dragons.

Bearded Dragons are very handleable we have one at home whose name is Drake, they are very peaceful and generally not very shy. They love human contact, ours will quite easily sit quietly with you for ours and easily sleep right there on the spot. Our entire family is crazy about our bearded dragon, make sure when you choose one its the one who seems to be the most interested in you that way you know this one likes you!

I had four bearded dragons as a child. They were all very docile. I've heard a few people say that theirs bit and puffed up in protest, but have never seen anything like that first hand. Mine would eat out of my hand and lay on my chest or shoulder for as long as I'd let them. Once they were back in their terrarium and warmed up, it was back to piggyback body surfing. Too cute.
Be sure, though, to find a reputable breeder. I got mine from pet stores and three out of four died from liver defect due to interbreeding.

Bearded dragons are about as friendly as you can get. I've had one for over two years and he has never once acted aggressive. I love to take him out of his cage and "hang" him on my shirt up by my shoulder. His little claws just cling to your shirt and he'll just stay there!
They are so easy to take care of it's almost scary. They don't even require a water bowl if you feed them vegetables daily. They love to just hang out under their heat lamp (don't forget they need a U/V lamp too!), and he loves to hunt crickets and meal worms.
I definitely recommend a bearded dragon for a first time lizard owner!

Beardies are awesome, especially when you get them at a younger age. Generally, they will just "chill out" on your hand. The more you handle them and get them used to you, the more they will stay still on you. It is rare that they attack, but their claws can tend to be a little sharp - sort of like kitten claws.
You could almost just stick a bearded dragon on your head and you'll be fine. They are personable and love attention.

Very handleable, but to get them use to it you got to do it often. Out first bearded we got from a cousins friend that gave him lots of attention and he loves being held. So we decided to get him a mate and she wasn't handled as much but we got her use to it and now she loves it to. They both like running around outside there cage too, but with supervison.

They are great, and like all animals, the longer and more often you hold them, the better off they are! I agree with getting them about a year old. Try reptile shows...we bought 3 today and paid $65 for a 10 month old.

the bearded dragon I had was a very nice and calm dragon, it let me hold him and all any time i wanted. I think it really depends on how you raise it.
