My baby actually bites for many reasons. over stimulated, excited, frusterated, etc. and sometimes he bites and yankes, which makes cuts in the lower nipple from his two teeth. Usually when it takes me a bit to get to him to feed him, (like driving in the car). He thinks I'm funny when I'm stern. I tried to flip his cheek, but that was too much for his feelings. Right now I try to squeeze his cheeks together to seperate his jaw, which opens it fine, but too late for my poor nipple. I may try nipple sheilds for inverted nipples, but haven't gotten them yet. he doesn't like bottles, although I do have success with that sometimes.(pumped milk) If anyone has any more advice that would be awesome! I really want to breastfeed till he's at least a year old. I'd also like advice as to what to do after I have scabs on my nipple, it hurts like crazy to feed him with it, so I've been pumping and trying to get him to take it from his bottle, but he hates it.
Thanks for your time

This biting you baby back advice is not smart. He may be teething some of the times, but He just gets so excited or upset i think he gets carried away which leads to the bit. He's only 7 months old, so I can't just talk and reason with him yet. that would be silly to think he'd understand at that level.

You need to put a stop to the bitting. Bite him back. Smack his hand and say no. Something needs to be done. You need to set the ground rules now. Right now he bites and you give him exactly what he wants when he wants it. Sounds like he rules the house.

I applaud you for continuing to breast feed. You are doing the absolute best thing for your baby even if he is making it painful. My oldest son got teeth at 4 months old and I nursed him for 2 years. At first, he bit me too. I would try not to show how much it hurt and quickly take him off of the breast. Each time he bit, I would take him off until he realized that he wouldn't be fed when he bit. He learned pretty quickly. Good luck to you both! Don't use bottles; it will only confuse him and get your body out of the milk producing rhythm that you are in. Don't bite your baby either!

A human bite that draws blood can mean trouble. You can get a nasty infection from a human bite. And breast infections aren't fun (my sister had one after the birth of her 2nd child) I suggest that if you want to continue giving the baby breast milk you purchase a pump and use bottles, because once an infection sets in you will no longer be able to breast feed.

I have two suggestions that worked for me. If you milk takes a little longer to let down and your baby gets frustrated waiting, try stimulating your nipples first to make your body think that he is nursing. When you feel the milk let down, let him start nursing. The other thing is to push him into your breast to get him to let go. It's our natural reaction to pull the baby away because it hurts, which actually makes it worse. If you push him into your breast it will plug his nose briefly and cause him to let go. You will get really good and fast at it. This really worked with my son. I hope this helps and don't give up. The biting is just a phase and he will out grow it. God Bless

You can put Lanolin on your nipples for the pain. It's available at drug stores and is safe for babies.

Bite him back. It may sound cruel but it will work. Don't let your child control you he needs to learn patients obviously or you are waiting to long to feed him. Maybe he needs some solid food if he is that hungry. If flipping his cheek is getting his attention then thats what you need to do.

Tell your man to get off it - so you can nurse the real baby.
