This seems like something that you shouldn't have to ask, but with the divorce rate what it is, I understand your question. First of all, be sure that you love (not lust) your future partner and that is very difficult to distinguish at the beginning of a relationship; therefore, TAKE YOUR TIME. Once the infatuation wears off, and this can take up to 3 years, see what's left. If it's friendship only that's not enough. Also, I think it helps if you and your future partner have lots in common: by this I mean similar backgrounds. I married a man whose family was very wealthy and had spoiled their children with THINGS but little time. They weren't close, but very superficial with one another. I came from a big family that wasn't wealthy but is very close. Once we had children, I saw how different we were as parents and I lost respect for him and then of course love. We divorced after 2 sons and 12 years. For the past 4 years I have dated a man who is Catholic and Italian like me and although my parents always told me that this would make life easier, I never understood that until now. We see things in the same way, were raised the same way with the same type of parents and values. This makes our relationship easy and who really wants that much work anyway? It shouldn't be hard work to be with the person you love; it should be enjoyable and easy, at least most of the time. Good luck to you.

marriage is a very spiritual connection and it not only changes ur life but also changes ur way of thinking.Human heart is very difficult and somtimes is more powerful in cases of love and marriage than the mind.I think we can know only with time and patience. It is not a decision which can be made spontaneously , based upon good looks or status .U will know when u care the most about the person ,ready to learn and live life with them. When u are not scared of how u would have to change and fit itself in responsibility. If u are aware of the good and the bad in a person but still feel the connection and feel confident about putting this through with give and take .Thts is the time when u need to know "THAT THIS IS the ONE FOR U"

When you simply just cannot picture your life without him/her. Really try doing it. That should help answer your question. If you can see yourselves together in the future and having a family (if you want one) then I would say that's the one...

When you both can tell each other everything and everything, when you both can have fun togather by doing nothing. When you know that you can trust them completely without having doubts.

When you love them enough to give them space when they need it.

When you're sure enough not to have to ask this question. It's all in your heart that lets you know.
