I once needed a logo for an organization I was chairing. I asked all the members to do a free logo for me. They all came out embarrassingly poor and I ended up having to pay a real artist to do one (which everyone loved).

Moral of story is that any logo someone does for free is going to be worth exactly what you paid for it - zero.
