After two days of splitting logs, I can tell you that a good 10 pound sledge and a wedge and ax can do it all for you without trying to make what is already available on the market and is very expensive. Splitting wood makes you warm twice - once when you split it and once when you burn it.

This isn't really what you asked for but a very good design easy to copy and build from a bottle jack and an axe head.
