STOP!! Don't use Ice. It will only dissolve the Play-dough and make a stain, as a couple of other people have already said it will dry out, a hairdryer will help to facilitate that process. If you really need it out in a hurry, go to the pharmacy and buy a can of the freeze off wart remover, you can freeze the dough and crush it with a small pair of pliers and then vacuum it out, but I would use the hairdryer first.

Get a cube of ice and place the ice on the playdough. After the playdough freezes a little, break it out of the carpet. Good Luck

cooking oil will loosen it. remove as much as possible, then use denatured alcohol to get rest and remove the oil. (Assuming it's wool, cotton or any other organic material.)

If it's a synthetic, use a hair-dryer to dry it out, so it will crack, and pull it loose. This won't work on organics, because it will get into the fibers, whereas synthetics are polymers, and don't have permeable fibers.

Alcohol won't work with synthetics, because it could melt the rug.

Oh NO!!! Don't scrub it or use water, it'll spread. Use a knife to slip it off or scissors to gently cut off bits of the carpet it got on. Then, to hide it (lol) put a throw rug over it!!
