I know that green is the color that is least effective, but my book doesn't tell me why. any help would be great

as you know it is green. it is obvious because it is the only one not absorbed so it is reflected that is why you see it. the lack of effectiveness has to do with its wavelength.

Because chlorophyll, the pigment involved in photosynthesis is green (for the most part, there are other forms that are not green) and because it is green it reflects green wavelengths of light and does not absorb them. Plants need to absorb light to perform photosynthesis.

Green, obviously as it is reflected by green plants.
