r&r = rest and recreation

used in military jargon to mean time away from the front (inside the green zone in Iraq, for example). Used extensively in the VIetnam War to mean time in Saigon or Honolulu or at Olongapo in the Philippines.

the soldiers and sailors themselves called it i&i, meaning "intoxication and intercourse."

As far as I know, the term means Rest & Recuperation - although I am sure Rest & Relaxation, Rest & Recreation, and co are equally valid.
