I do everything and he leaves a mess wherever he goes in the house.

I will share my secret. I had enough of nagging and cleaning up after my husband so I hired a housekeeping service. I had them come every other week and left the check for their services on the counter. Once my husband figured out how much we were spending each month for the service, he came around and started helping. Since he has become the BEST bathroom cleaner and helps without me asking. When things become lax on his part, I tell him that it may be time to start the housekeeping service again. It whips him right into shape again! Try it!

Good luck to you!

The problem with just leaving his messes for him to do (which has been suggested numerous times on here) is that men dont always hav the same worry over the household appearance that women generally do. The typical male would be completely content with living in a pig-sty (no offense guys, but statistics are against you). So this wont work because the messes will just pile up.
The other option is to talk him into doing it somehow....fair warning though, most guys will only do enough to get by. They wouldnt do it to your taste. So, though this is a good place to start with getting him to clean up after himself, it is not the end. You still need to work on getting him to do it right.
If all else fails, and he still refuses to help out around the house, you my have to give him the tough decision someone else mentioned. You are not his maid!!! He makes the messes, he can help clean them. If not, you might want to find someone who cares more about you.

P.S. I also like Charlie's idea

! Complain and complain and complain until it eats a hole in your soul and you wake up in the middle of the night sobbing into your pillow because your world is crashing down around you and life is just not worth living anymore if you have to live this way!

Because a clean house is the true meaning of life. No matter how good a companion and\or provider. No matter how much you love each other. No matter how happy you are together. It is important that you keep on this every waking moment until he finally sees the error of his ways and lives his life the right way, your way, clean. Because clean is really the only thing that matters.

If he refuses to change you should take the kids, file for divorce and move out. Can’t have kids growing up around dirty socks!

Holy CRAP! I forgot the resentment! It's the most important part! Make sure you take his refusal to do things your way as a personal attack! Let him know that you know the real reason he does not pickup is because he DISRESPECTS you as a person! Then all you have to do is let that resentment bleed into every corner of your relationship until one or both of you are driven into the arms of others to dull the pain of that pair of underware that are next to the hamper but not quit in it! How can you live this way!

Your dog or husband? You said "whenever he goes in the house". Is he usually kept outside?

Assuming it is a man, try trading favors for chores, do not beat around the bush, just say it. Men can't stand clues and hints. I will give you an example. Honey, for every time you take out the garbage, I will do that little thing you always ask me to do. Mean it or he will not fall for it again. If you play your cards right, he will be cleaning the toilets every day.

I hear you...my husband is the same way. He used to throw all of his dirty clothes in the corner of our bedroom, the laundry basket was in the opposite corner...so I just moved the basket.
But really, I think most men feel like it's a "woman's" job whether they will admit it or not, to clean up after them and everyone else in the house....since the man has the full-time job (I know, even when I was working full-time and doing everything in the house my husband still gave me the "I work 9 hours a day, I am tired when I get home.)
Good luck.

Give him a list of things you know he's "responsible" for... taking out trash, wiping off counters and include "manly" things that count too. mowing lawn, changing oil in the cars, washing the car. He'll be flattered that you think those things count. Or, just try to find a way to help him do some chores with you in the nude....only after he completes a few of his own. You know men always are motivated by sex.

I don't mind cleaning house or picking up after my husband because he works really hard and I respect him. Remember that marriage is a two-way street and most of his money is probably taking care of all the bills - so do your part and stop complaining. Be a team.

Let him know that a lot of women see men doing stuff around the house as foreplay. Ask him to vacuum naked, and watch him! It's amazing what you can do to spur them on if you get creative. Oh, gee, if you both work hard on a Saturday morning and do chores together, you might just "have to nap" all afternoon! Choose your carrots carefully.....

AGE OLD QUESTION

AGE OLD ANSWER:
"You change more hubbies with honey than with vinegar."

NOTE: But only IF they want to change. It's called good communication in marriage and consideration for the spouse. Sounds like you don't have it, but it's very possible you can work on good changes, if both of you are willing.
