Think Grease! Pics from the movie:

The 1950's wear. Pony Tails. Thin, short scarf around the neck. Satin jacket. Poodle Skirts. Pencil Skirts, rolled up leg Levis, Letter, or other Sweater, Pastel Collar Blouse, Plaid Skirt, rolled up white Bobby Socks, Saddle Shoes in any two colors. Keds sneakers - they Still make them and they are still cheap - I have a few pairs!

You can even do the Girl Greaser look like Sandy. Here's Barbie in Sandy's classic outfit. Black leather jacket, black low shoulder sweetheart blouse, black slacks.

Another Sadsy Olsson look - more like June Cleaver modeled by Barbie::

Ask your parents or grandparents, maybe THEY have something in their closets that can be altered.

Most ikely, you already have an updated version of some of these items in your closet or can borrow them. Go to your local thrift store for them. The poodle skirts are easy to make.

Like these fashions:

Updated version, but skirt TOO short - maybe not for now, but the 50's skirts were WAY longer, below the knees - even the cheerleader outfits.

The most important thing to do here is to HAVE FUN! Enjoy!

A poodle skirt, a very fine gauge cardigan sweater worn backwards, ankle socks, saddle shoes, a ponytail in your hair and cats eye glasses. Nothing cheap about that costume though...sorry

A blouse, skirt, and white ankle socks would be the "dress" for a sock hop. How well I remember!!

Chow!!

But make it all up yourself for cheap! You could even make the skirt out of felt (Just cut out a huge circle with a circle in the middle that you can get over your shoulders) Glue on a "poodle" that you also cut out of felt. Cinch the skirt up with a wide patent leather belt (luckily they are everywhere this season---try www.forever21 for a cheap one.) Wear a cute t shirt (they also used to wear their initials on their shirt's... like Laverne from "Laverne and shirly" so you could cut that out of felt and pin it on a shirt. Tie a scarf around your neck and one around your pony tail, wear bobby socks and keds and you're set!
