Do female bettas fight each other? I know males will fight until the death. I didn't think females did that. Do they?

Yes, if tank set up doesn't meet the territorial requirements...any betta ( or fish for that matter) are highly territorial especially if breeding is targeted. I was attempting to breed a subspecies of betta (crown tails) and had 3 females in a ten gal half filled, and 2 of the females went crazy - one biting the other over the mouth (had to bump them with a net a few times to seperate them)...
Bettas may be easy to take care of individually, but as a group the difficulty increases. People have been studying betta behavior for decades and no one has yet reached a clear verdict on any behavior...when dealing with fish in general expect anything...fighting especially. ANY fish will fight for territory and food. Unless breeding, it's best to keep males and females apart...though in some cases you can put bettas in with tetras and other passive fish species. Hope this helps, good luck.

no female bettas do not fight you can even put them in aquariums with certain other fish to add color if you have a male betta you can put several females with him and if you are lucky they may even breed but they are egg layers and not as easy as some they are really interesting to watch and very colorful

Females will not fight if in a tank together. If you're trying to breed, it's not always guaranteed that the male will not kill the famale, best to have a divider and see how he accepts her. If you'r just talking about females though, you're good to go.

the betas we get from our pet stores are not as dominate as the ones in the wild, or as colorful. and though they fight sometimes i have put two in one aquarium, Go figure, you should think about two female betas for one male. i doubt youll have any trouble with them i dont know why they do good in groups of three but they do. good luck
