I have to chose a book to read from a list and then do a book report. The problem is that all of the books on the list are really really really far below my level. Most of these books are stupid books intended for immature unintelligent boy-obcessed pre-teen girls who are desperate to grow up, like the stupid Princess Diaries. The reason why we have such childish crap to read is because the teachers took a survey of the students favorite books and put the top ten answers as the options. The justification is that they want students to read books that they like. If thats the case then why don't they let us chose our own books. Does anyone have any ideas on how to survive these stupid books?

Have you asked your teachers to please let you read something else? If they refuse, send them a card congratulating them on being complicit in destroying American education. This is really infuriating.

Pick one, at random. Force your way through it. Then, find a book that appeals to your maturity and which covers the same idea(s). Make your book report a comparison of how the two authors handled the subject. It meets the requirements, shows the teacher at what level you can operate and will expand your understanding of the different levels on which a subject can be treated.

well if i were u i would ask the teacher if she would let me pick my own book and if not then finish the book as fast as you can and just get it done with or use cliffnotes . And if there are a lot of people in your class that think you you do i would get you all in a group and all ask the teacher together.
hpe it helps

Ask if you can read what you like. It may help if you have a few titles in mind, so you can give her specifics. If she says no, then read the books she says, and really rock the reports.

Talk to the teacher, ask for more options...explain the situation...suggest a compromise, if that doesnt work, just get it over with

You could use it as an opportunity to give your views on this type of book and the deleterious effect it has on education.

Ask your teacher if you could read a classic instead. I can't imagine they'd say no.
