Personally, I like the hustle and bustle of it all. You just have to plan ahead a little and know it might take longer. Some of the best conversations can be started while waiting in line, even with grumpy people, because sometimes you can calm them down or change their mood by being friendly. I work retail and I love it when it gets busy. Makes the hours fly by. People can get rude and pushy, but I just tell myself they are either really in a pinch, or rather pathetic to let something like the last beanie baby on the counter turn them into a monster.
Happy shopping!!!!!!!
P.S. Unless you like to get trampled, avoid the Blitz' the day after Thanksgiving.....they are war!!!!

It's pretty bad, if you're in a rush to get those last-minute items. Two years ago, I worked in a gas station for christmas eve, and there were people cleaning the novelty gift items out of the store for stocking stuffers, because they had waited too long. This was in a GAS STATION.

And many times, people will go into a store and find that what they wanted, is sold out. But if you want to get a good feeling for the holiday spirit, it's a good thing to go join the hustle and bustle. Music will be streaming out from every direction, you'll have "mall carolers" singing songs in the local mall, decorations galore, and even plenty of items on sale to get rid of them at the last minute.

Just try not to pay attention to the people that are getting frustrated by last minute shopping and huge crowds. Or, make their day by offering to help them out. I did that one year and got an unexpected "bonus" on the side. I went to a Wal-Mart and found a woman and her three kids doing last minute shopping, and she had a pretty big list. I offered to fetch some of the items on her list, while she fetched others, and took care of the kids. She got her shopping done that much faster, and in the end, she bought me a CD walkman to thank me.

I used to love to hit the stores the day after Thanksgiving. One year I had just had foot surgery and a 6 year old so I had to shop. I decided to try online and it was fabulous. That was when it was new and everyone offered free or reduced shipping. It's now my favorite way to shop!

REALLY bad in my area. Around the holidays, I can't get to what I'm looking for without bypassing at least 8 people.

in singapore, it gets pretty crowded in orchard road especially when people are trying to do last-minute shopping. that will be like during the last few days before christmas, and on the morning of christmas eve as well.

you literally have to fight your way to the cashiers. and there are people patient enough to queue for gift wrapping. i will just grab the wrappers and wrap the gifts myself.
