What are you currently feeding your horse?
If you have a good hard feed & hay/chaff , then feed him 3 small - medium size feeds a day .
The more frequently you feed him the better the feed is absourbed through the body , Make sure his worming is up to date ......

And if after 1 month he hasnt put on weight get your vet out he may need blood tests.

Hope that works for you.

Although vitamins can help, they are not necessarily meant to help the horse gain weight as much as to regulate the digestive tract. Vegetable oil is quite usefully in weight gain, about 1/3-2/3 of a cup a day is usually good. While this may cause loose stool, it is not harmful. Horse need a certain amount of oil in their diet to promote a healthy balance of fats in their systems. It helps with a shiny coat and maintaining and gaining weight. If you feel uncomfortable using oil, supplements are available. Such as, Weight Builder, Fat Cat, etc. Ask your vet about different types, or look at SmarPak's website. However, do NOT simply increase your horse's grain ration. Excess grain can cause hyperactivity and thus could be dangerous. Increasing a hay ration is more to keep horses warm, and with another supplement, like Weight Builder, or oil, increased hay can help put weight on a horse. Good Luck!

There are many vitamins you can provide your horse with that will help your horse prepare for winter. Vitamins A, B1, E, H and K work wonders. But make sure you use them accordingly, don't go overboard. Some people might advise you to put cottonseed oil with regular pellets/grains. This is only a temp solution and might irritate your horse's natural digestion processes (ie: loose stool). Make sure you are giving your hrose good quality hay. A horse's natural instincts tell the horse winter is around the corner and the horse will naturally put on extra weight. Just remember not to overdo it. You might harm it more than help it. Good luck.
