Two words; Form and Content.
Form: Depiction of how it appears, the physicality of it from the medium, color, texture and all the basic design fundamental. This also applies to the comparison/association to some of the existing work of art.
Content: Is the 'mentality', notion/idea and the aesthetic meaning behind the work of art. More on why this and why that? Content is higly important compared to Form nowadays, thus proves the reason why originality is the key of a good artwork.
Get both of these basics right, and consider yourself an excellent art critic :)

Art is how you see it. you may see some things other people don't. it is what you see . a tree could just be a tree to some . to others they look at it and notice the leaves , the shape of the tree.it is what you visualize....

i see what is there, i try to see where it came from, i try to see where it is going.......where it came from is important, because it shows a world that is different from yours, what it appears to be as see now, is only the beginning, all must be brought together to make whole, to see the depth, where it is going is deep within itself, trying to see the future of what is....that future, what will this peice of art do to the future, and what will the artist articulate next, can i possible imagine what next to come from this artist,if i could, would not that help me to see this peice more fully, past, present, and future, ,,,,,lots of work,,,,,but will open your eyes to see that which is unseen, that which is invisible, to those who do not take the time to try and see, but only to critisize.................pass these boundries at your own risk.......no insurance to your sanity is garauteed........have fun though.....and look in the positve and keep it that way
