diesel pump how do i know which one it is lucas etc?

The pump is labeled Diesel or it has its own station.

Do you mean the high pressure injector pump on the engine, or the ones at the filling stations?

If you mean the injector pump, then you ought to follow the pipework back from the cylinder head to the pump and see if it is a rotary CAV pump, as these are the Lucas type.

If it is an inline type of pump rather than a rotary, then you are not looking at a Lucas type but rather Simms or maybe a foreign manufacture.

Don't know what the vehicle is but that is the likelihood with UK manufactured vehicles, I believe.

Assuming you are doing the work yourself, have a look at the pump. It might be stamped with the makers name or some other mark or serial number.
Either way, the parts person should be able to tell you what make it is by your description of the marks.

lucas is just a brand name to find out what model you need refer to your manual or look at the pump that is already fitted, also if you buy it at halfords with a garage the mechanics will be able to tell you exactly what one you need and take it home

Which pump do you mean,the injector pump,the lift pump or the bowser where you fill up?The injector pumps are usually marked with their brand,lucas,bosch,cav etc but you will have to post more info .

The one that say's DIESEL - often they are also a different color.

they usually have small plate rivetted to it or manufacturers name embossed in side like bosch or c.a.v [lucas]
