We are a family of 4, (2 kids, age 12 & 6) going to Orlando for two weeks, for the 1st time.
we have paid upfront for all the attraction tickets and are staying in a villa, self catering we have also paid for hire car.
we do not plan on buying lots of souveniers/presents.
do you think £2000.00 is enough for a fortnight or what would you consider enough. thanks

Hi!

Yeah, I think £2000 is plenty.

We did this trip at this time of year a couple of years ago. Me, hubby and three kids.

Eating out is so cheap over there. We usually had breakfast at Denny's or somewhere else like that - masses of food for not very much money. Then we'd have a very light lunch. We used to end up eating our evening meal at around 8pm.

We bought quite a few souveniers - coz - yet again - it's all so cheap over there! Things bought over there were THREE times dearer in the Disney shops over here (UK).

We also took a credit card - 'just in case'.

Also, don't forget the shopping malls! The sales in the US are amazing! You get to the till with some 'sale' stuff to find that there's a 'special offer' on and they knock even more off!!

Another handy hint is for you to take a big holdall with you that can fit into one of your suitcases when you go, because if you shop wisely you will end up bringing loads more than you went with! We also took some old t-shirts and shorts to sleep in and then binned them before we came home to give us more space in our cases coming home.

Handy Hint Number 2! : Find a CVS store and get some 'after sun gel'. It comes in a large plastic bottle and the liquid is a bright blue see through colour and has LANACANE in it - it is the CVS own brand stuff. You simply MUST get some of this - it is brilliant for burns of any kind. You can't get it over here. One of my kids made himself some pasta about a year ago, and ended up scalding his hand. He came running to me and you should have seen the state of his hand! It was horrible! I slapped a load of this stuff on it and you wouldn't believe it - after ten minutes you wouldn't have know anything had happened to his hand! It really is brilliant stuff. There's nothing over here that comes anywhere near it.

Hope I haven't rambled on too much!

Oh, I've just remember something else! In Islands of Adventure there are some excellant caricaturists - get one done of the family - they are great fun. We have ours on display at home and it's a brilliant reminder of a brilliant holiday.

You'll have a great time and your kids are just the right age to enjoy everything!!

Safe journey!

That should be a good amount of money.

I was there in March for two weeks and spent around $100-$150 for my son and myself per day. That included meals, tips, presents, etc. But like it was stated earlier, it is very easy to get carried away...very easy.

Since you are staying in a villa, you will be able to make some of the meals on your own and save food. When I was there a few years ago, I stayed in a villa and went grocery shopping at a local market. This saved tons of money. I am going next December and have decided to ship a box of "stuff" down early, so I won't have to buy it. I don't know if that would be an option for you, but that would also help keep the cost down on meals and such.

My other piece of advice is to wait to buy things. After you have visited all the parks, then decide what you want to get. Many of the parks carry the same things, so if you see it as Magic Kingdom, you can probably get it at Epcot. Obviously the things that are Park specific won't be at other parks, but general Disney World items will be. So wait! Especially if you have a park hopper ticket where you can go to more than one park a day...otherwise check out the whole park before you buy!

Have a great time!

I went to Orlando a year ago when i was 17. I took $1500 and that was just mine. My parents paid for every meal and ticket entrance. We also stayed in a villa.

If you have all tickets and a car then i think that should be more than enough to eat as you said you do not intent on buying many souvenirs.

Be warned its very easy to get carried away.... look after the pennies.....

Have a lovely trip - I'm sure you will find it great!

Since you seem to have most expenses "prepaid", you should be quite fine. Outside of Disney World you can find many reasonably priced restaurants. Inside Disney, while it can be a bit pricey, we have found success by sharing meals. The portions of most meals are quite abundant, and sharing the meals doesn't leave us feeling over-stuffed.

When purchasing souvenirs I try to make certain that it something that I can only purchase at "Disney World". Many of the items can be purchased at a local Disney Store or online. We usually purchase things like T-shirts that say "Walt Disney World" .

Have a great time! Remember to relax and take it all in.

The one thing you dont need to worry about is the food, its cheaper to eat out than mess about wasting valuble holiday time walking around supermarkets for food, sounds like being at home to me !! You can get all you can eat buffets at say the Ponderosa ( loads of choice around I. Drive ) chain for about $9 which is £5, who wants to cook !!
The drink is about the same price as here, alcoholic or soft, obviously dearer in the parks ( so is the food )
The parks are brilliant, dont miss out on Island of Adventures at Universal and Busch Gardens you will have a ball on the rides.
£2000 should be enough, but watch those shopping malls, Levi 501 jeans for £14, and if you go after Thanksgiving ( 24th Nov think ? ) then its like our Boxing day and the sales are on. We will be there once again in November as its impossible to do it all on one holiday....have fun, we do !

£2000 is nearly $4000. Thanks to the favourable exchange rate, you're quids in! Just remember that what would cost £25 here would cost $25 over there, and that, my friend, does not equate :-D

Give my regards to America's Wang :-)
