In this film a strange event happens and everyone on the earth dies; that is except for someone who just happens to die exactly when the strange event happens - this person will live. It has a pretty sad ending where the main character is left alone on the earth. I think it is an Australian film possibly.

I know the film you mean...I love it too..There were three that survived i think but i don't know the name of it either so I will be watching this question. Good Luck.

Yeah, "The Silent Earth". The hubby and I rented it from Netflix and it was the director's edition. We watched not only the actual movie, but we also watched the director's commentary and the ending is really screwy!
