I think a gift card shows no imagination and I do not like receiving them one little bit!
I never give gift cards, either. I buy gifts that I think someone will like, and include a gift receipt---just in case it doesn't work out

I think gift cards are great for certain things. For Christmas I buy my immediate family gifts, that I search and choose for them to be something special. But for when my kids go to a birthday party, a co-worker, some showers, extended family etc. , people that I don't know super well, I would give a gift card to. I like recieving in the same way. I don't want only gift cards from my immediate family, but HELLOO , when someone else gives me a gift card i love it, (better than a candle or something)

I personally think they are great! In some situations, if a person doesn't know exactly what I would like, than I would graciously accept a gift card to a place where anyone could benefit! I would give a gift card to someone I wasn't positive what they REALLY like. That way it was still thoughtful, but at least you didn't get them something they hated! You gave them a decision to get what THEY wanted!

All the kids in my family between the age of 10-18 get gift cards.I ask their mom what the kid's favorite store is and I go there. anyone younger or older than that, gets gifts. You need to be really careful with the little ones. Gifts work better than gift certs. They like to open a toy, not an envelope. there are so many "in" things these days, that I let the kids go get what they want, and they like it so much more than getting something they will not use. I work hard for my money, so why waste it on something they will not use. And they love them! If they are saving for something, it may be just enough to fill in the amount they needed. There is not one kid in my family, or parent, who disapprove of them, and we have 15 kids in our family that get the certificates, and not one gets shoved in the closet, never to be seen again.( the certificate, not the kid)

I think gift cards are great! It eliminates people getting gifts they hate but have to use so the gift giver doesn't feel bad.

i like to give and recieve them sometimes gift are given and are not liked, this is the best way to give the perfect gift, and have fun shopping for it...it is the in thing

i usually use as a last last resort if i really cannot find anything else that suits the person (especially for someone who has everything).
it is a little impersonal.
