Do you suppose biblical marriage is defined different than our government defines it? Most certainly.

Gay marriage is a state issue, marriage its self is a state issue. The State hands out the Marriage Certificate. Meaning that it should be put to a vote by the people on what is Marriage in that State.

I will not vote for Gay marriage myself, as I see that a Marriage is a place to have a family. In a gay relationship you can not concieve children therefor marriage it should not be called.

I would however be ok if the same rights were passed along to those in a Civil Union, meaning they live together, went in front of a Judge or Magistrate and then recieved a paper saying the State recongnized their union.

Keep the feds out of the bedroom and let the citizens have their say. Everyone is free to vote in this country and can get out and change minds to get the outcome they want. If you do not believe that then I must ask why are you here and not in Cuba.

Edit: Full faith and Credit pretains to the Federal Government only not the individual states. I swear Liberals need to take a reading course on what the Constitution actually states.

They have you swear on a Bible...or used to.

Marriage is a religious institution that was adopted by the government as an incentive to promote stability in society.

I don't know if you are aware of this, but there are still some sexual acts that are illegal (laws that could be enforced but arent) which are standard practices of homosexuality. That is how strongly politicians used to feel about homosexuality.

Only recently in the history of United States of America have morals relaxed enough among enough to allow people, such as athiests and agnostic, in positions to make or change laws...so dont pretend the country has been this way all along. It hasnt. Religion has simply been forgotten or ignored in the people we choose as leaders until President Bush started promoting his faith as part of the basis for his decisions and his ideas of using faith-based organizations to help people on a local level.

That will become an issue again some day, but what the context or the outcome will be, I wonder.

You are right, the Bible would not be read before a judge renders a decision. However, whether you like it or not, the Bible is a part of our society and culture. It has shaped our country since its birth. With the majority of the population believing in God, it will continue to do so. I am not trying to provide an argument for those who believe, I am just saying what is fact.

It's a question of inspiration my dear. If scripture is indeed the revelation of the creator God then of course all law can only have a firm foundation if it rests on that divine revelation. If it's just some book written by fallible humans then of course you can feel free to ignore its restrictions as the outdated relic of an earlier and less enlightened culture. But its an important question with possibly eternal consequences, so don't make up your mind too quickly, or without sufficient study of the material yourself.

First the bible is man's rendition. We had so many humans in the past tinker with the bible that it cannot be considred the authentic word of God. Further when the bible was redone, it was with the perceptions of the diffrent authors. King James would be a good example.

Render to Caesar that which is Caesar's and render to God that which is God's.

Today, many Christians abhor gay marriage just as the Jews abhorred the Romans during the time of Jesus. Yet, the Jews continued to pay taxes to Rome and to support the synagogues and temples throughout the land. Therefore, if Caesar wants to allow gay marriage - sounds good in my book - why should I fight it? After all, the Jews fought the Romans and were annihiliated in 70 AD. 243 years later, the Roman Empire became Christian.

Therefore, Caesar can establish gay marriage as the law of the land if Caesar feels like gay marriage is a government's responsibility rather than religion's. Those who are Christians will be annihilated by some unknown diabolical entity and those who embrace gay marriage will ultimately be annihilated like the Jews in 70 AD.

I do not really care about gay marriage but I do have an opinion on your question.

No it is not part of the government but the bible is part of the personal philosophy of the majority of Americans. They have the right to state their opinions, vote and pressure their elected representatives to conform to their beliefs. Just because a person is a Christan they are not required to surrender their ploitical rights.

Do you think, then, that murder should be de-criminalized?

How about Theft?

The Constitution is our governing document, and it says the States get to decide this issue of marriage...

And, Steve, you are incorrect. The States do have the right to NOT give full faith and credit to policies which are repugnant to their own...

Example: Common law marriage. Not given full faith and credit...

My decision is final. Homosexuality in wrong according to the bible. Marriage is an act that is blessed by God. See the problem here? Don't make our religious beliefs a joke, just because you want to prove something. Will it also okay be if a man wants to marry his sheep? Where does this crap end?
