Each is different, just be yourself and you will figure out which one is best for you. I did. I was actually scouted out by a friend, told that the sorority wanted me to rush, didn't think I'd have trouble pledging, etc. When I got in I was so amazed, since I have a rather cantankerous soul. I'm not very bendable and peer pressure doesn't work. They just liked that about me -- that I tell you straight what's going on and did things my way. Very supportive, especially if you need help, which I did at one point.

Hello,

I am a member of a very presigious sorority and am very aware of some of the activities and standards of several others.

Each and every sorority is different one from another. They are not all just about parties and fraternity boys. Several of the sororities are service oriented rather than social. What I mean by that is that there are several organizations that were founded on the principle of being of service to the community and making a positive political and social impact on the community through service (volunteer activities with various groups and organizations).

If you are really interested in the possibilty of obtaining membership in a sorority when you go to college there are several things that you will need to do. The first thing that you should do is to learn as much as you can about all of the sororities that you are considering via books and websites regarding the organizations. The next thing that you will need to do is to make sure that you are aware of the membership requirements of the organization that you choose and do start doing the things that you are advised are things that you must do for membership consideration and also kee in mind that membership is usually pretty expensive so begin saving money as soon as you can. Next, once you are on campus, observe the young women in the sorority that you have chosen and make sure that they are women that you think that you can even form a sisterly bond with.

Next, you may want to form a friendship with one or two of the members and do NOT tell them that you are interested in membership in the group. KEEP YOUR GRADES UP!
Attend as many of the functions that the chapter at your particular school will have...(ie meet and greets, heath information seminars, Founders' week celebration events, social service fundraising events....etc.)

ATTEND RUSH!!! For many organizations this is a REQUIREMENT!!! Start considering people from whom you would like to obtain the required letters of reference/recommendation. STart considering the interest letter that you will have to write and start working on it at the beginning of the year that you will seek membership. From then on, just follow the rule given to you by the women of your chosen organization and be sure to follow the policies set forth by the National Office (if they have one).

There is possibly more specifica advice that could be given to you, therefore you will need to ask this question again when you are a quarter or semester before you oficially seek membership from (Hopefully, to some degree) a member of that sorority here on yahoo avswers then.
