We're thinking about places to move to escape Chicago weather (too hot and humid during the summer and too cold for too long in the winter!).

Austin has come up as a very real possibility, but what are the different neighborhoods there? Are there any places to be concered about crime rate? Like, are there good/bad areas north/south/east/west of the heart of the city? Are there good/bad suburbs?

I agree with the other two answerers; if you're moving to Austin to escape heat and humidity, you're not exactly going to get your wish granted. It gets extremely hot from May to early September (100+).

South and east Austin would have a higher crimerate than the west or north. However, as you go farther south and to the east, you hit Westlake, a small town outside Austin, which is a very wealthy area. North/west Austin is for the most part very nice, which is where I live myself.

There in crime every where. Most expensive place to live is w Austin to north Austin. East is more minority based but many whites are moving in because of house prices.

It is very hot and humid here, as well as most TX cities. summer time temps are between 80 to 105 august being the hottest.

All places have problems. You're moving to Austin to escape summer humidity ? Main differences: 1) Money 2)Ethnic persuasion 3) Language used. If you have a lot of 1) other two don't matter.
