Clings to all plastic components. Responds to mildew cleaner but keeps coming back

It probably keeps coming back because you haven't treated the source yet. Flush out the lines with a bleach solution. We do this with our central air, too, and it keeps everything from mold, mildew, and algae from building up. Don't use straight, undiluted bleach, as it is too corrosive. We use about half & half.
Also try leaving the door to the dishwasher open after you run it, to allow for air circulation to help dry it out. Mold and mildew love dark, damp places.

Kill the growth with hot water. Start with an empty dishwasher. Push the rinse and hold button and start. As soon as water starts to fill, open the door and add water manually from a boiling pot from your stovetop. Add only enough water to proper level. Approx. 1 to 2 inches on bottom of unit. Close the door and let cycle finish.

try opening the dishwasher door after the dry cycle is finished it wont allow that much condensation to build up on the inside. also try straight bleach or even run a couple of cycles with vinegar in the washer

sounds like you have an old dishwaher I would replace it, any mildew in an area that you wash your dishes and glasses can't be good for you. better safe than sorry
