In the U. S. needed skills are taught on the high school level. That does not mean you cannot acquire them elsewhere. But typing is an essential skill as well as computer skills. Politeness, poise, and maybe good looks will also help. But you might try to learn Excel really well, learn bookkeeping and accounting. That is always in demand. An employer would love for you to have those skills and also answer the telephone.

to answer your question - how do i be a secretary or receptionist first means that if you choose it to be your career, you'll need to take the necessary entry courses that will educate you. if you don't know what the skills are for the career you want, you can't just be one. make sense? get online to check out skills both for secretarial, receptionist, and clerical, which will cover both. good luck.

Well to be honest you really dont need anything especially advanced, when I was a receptionist the only thing my employer asked for was basic computer skills and multi-tasking abilities. My basic job duties were cleaning rooms(I worked for a vet office),answering a 3 line phone system, taking messages, checking people in.Basic stuff.Just remember to be really polite. You can become one by applying at any place that hires them.Try doctors offices, auto centers, vet hospitals, eye care places, etc. Good luck!

Good people skills, ability to think on your feet, nice personality. Computer skills .. word processing, etc, good phone skills, etc. There are secretarial schools or you could start entry level as a clerk and work your way up..

you first have to ask yourself are you a people person? you must be aware that there will be some situations when a customer/client/person will get on your last nerve, can you handle not loosing your cool? try calling your city colleges to see what programs are available, that will help a lot more to have some sort of certificate in order to obtain a job in that field. good luck
